The work I have been pursuing as an artist over the last several years has been defined by concerns about how and why spaces and places are constructed and occupied. These concerns are deeply rooted in a desire to understand -- or at least attempt to -- the complex relationships between people and the mechanisms through which we negotiate conflict in lived space. Following political philosophers interested in space, from Henri Lefebvre and the Situationists to Mike Davis and Rosalyn Deutsch, my interest is in envisioning utopian and pragmatic ways of reshaping spaces where power is inequitably distributed.
